Laurie and her associates have nearly 50 years combined experience in the furniture industry. But it is exactly their work throughout those years that helped them discover a new way — a better way to offer products for home decor.

You see, it's pretty easy to set up shop when you segment people. There's the bargain / value shopper, looking for a deal or an inexpensive solution. And there's the homeowner who wants to make a statement with only the finest pieces, where money is no object.

But what if a company could address the discriminating person who still doesn't want to throw away money? The person who wants the best, but refuses to pay top dollar for it?

If you were smart, couldn't you find a way to get those high demand items — at a discount? Surplus inventory? Displaced merchandise? Items that were changed out for new models, simply to allow retailers to sell at a premium?

Only Laurie's experience taught her that to be truly successful, you couldn't just run across an occassional deal now and then. You would have to have the leverage, the clout, the business savvy to offer top merchandise. At a significant discount. On a regular basis. And on a grander scale than other discount channels already available.

Laurie Hartwell found a way to satisfy that kind of customer. She opened Hartwell Design for that very person. The lawyer who wanted his office to make a statement (even though it cost far less than half that of a similarly furnished office he liked). The lady who wanted her new home to reflect her attention to detail and cultural appreciation (even though her entire dining and living area was furnished for less than the cost of one of her oil paintings). The young professional couple moving to a new neighborhood who really couldn't afford much (but were adamant about showing good taste).
